Foundations of Medicine

Foundations of medicine is the module that gets your feet wet when you are starting medical school. It was the first of three courses for me during term one. Often, a variation of this block is the introductory module every medical student must take. It can be a healthy GPA booster. Foundations is a lot of what you learned during your undergraduate career. The course covers topics you have seen before in greater detail. Use this to your advantage! While every medical school is different, the first course is straight forward and only a glimpse of what is to come. There is a reason it is called foundations!

Very quickly, I found out that assigned readings are supplemental not required. No matter what the faculty says! As far as outside resources, I did not use anything other than my lecture slides. The questions provided by the professors were enough for this module. I will admit for the first week of medical school, I tried to do it all. Between assigned readings, using every outside resource I could find and lectures, I found out it was impossible to keep up. Stick to lectures and practice questions. Sometimes, keeping it simple is the best way to learn it all!
