Being in medical school can often make you feel like you are functioning in chaos. There are many things to learn and assignments to complete, but there is beauty in all the madness. My second term’s nervous system and behavior sciences block was among the most difficult. The brain is a very complex organ. I found taking information in small batches and building on that helpful.
First and foremost, when learning about the brain, it might be best to take care of it with healthy eating habits. It may be challenging to care for yourself when you have so much to do, especially when working towards a rigorous career. I find walking outside best and getting some of my favorite things. For me, those are daisies. Keeping my home stocked with fresh flowers always makes me feel like I have it all together. When we feel good, we perform best.
At this point in medical school, I started using First Aid. Most medical students use this book in preparation for the USMLE Step 1. This was not my purpose for using it, but the concepts here were simplified and easy to understand. The book also provides mnemonics, which were particularly helpful to me.
